Visiting for a Newborn shoot
When you arrive we will explain the full details of this beautiful experience. Once baby is settled you can sit back with a drink and watch us create some amazing photos. Please bring extra nappies and a change of cloths for baby (for travelling home) and extra milk if your using bottles. If you use bottles at night its also an idea to bring one. We have a Mummy and Baby room although we fully support both feeding and changing in the main studio. We have Air Con and Wifi so you really can chill out and enjoy the time we spend with your newborn along with lovely comfy sofas.
PLEASE DO NOT feed baby just before you come to us, We know its not always possible to make newborn wait but its much much easier if you feed them here after you arrive. Its better to call me on 02380 767084 to tweak the time of your shoot to suits babies feeds.
We would also suggest a change of cloths for you because it only takes a slight accident and your shirt will spoil your parent photo opportunities.
THE MOST IMPORTANT PART Photo options and choices PLEASE READ
We have a very wide selection of props and outfits but these change all the time, sometimes because we get bored with a certain look and often because they wear out or are unavailable due to baby accidents so its SUPER IMPORTANT that if you require a certain look then you tell us right at the beginning if the shoot please do not just assume that we will doing it. Every single photoshoot is different and just because you have seen a certain shot to style does not mean we will automatically take that shot to style with your baby. Each newborn is different and the most important factor for us is safety. If your baby is asleep we can offer a much wider range of props and options than if your baby is awake and unsettled.
Another thing too bear in mind is that some babies are absolutely fine with changing outfits and others not. We always suggest 2 our 3 outfit changes for baby, sometimes we can do 4 or 5 but after 2 or 3 changes if your baby is un settled or in rare cases gets distressed then we will stop and move to family photos which is where you can console baby. We will let you know during the shoot when we think we have enough newborn photos. We are happy to carry on well beyond that point providing baby is happy, it does not matter how cute an outfit or an idea is, it will never look good on a screaming baby.
Having said that 99% off our babies arrive and leave very happy and we get everything we need it just takes patience
Family photos If you bring siblings then we get a few photos of baby with siblings as we go along, this does not disrupt the newborn shoot and makes for beautiful photos. Towards the end of the shoot we offer to do a few family photos too, Mum, Dad and baby as well as any siblings that you bring. But PLEASE BE AWARE that this is a newborn photoshoot and not a family photoshoot. We do a few poses on one background mostly standing or sitting on a bench with baby whatever is easiest and more comfortable for the new mummy. We generally do not allow any changes of outfits for families unless it’s a very quick change so as not to disrupt things after what can be a long newborn shoot. If you are looking for a family shoot with multiple changes or extended family then please let me know when you book so that I can advise on timings and extra costs involved.
Editing your beautiful photos
We have all heard the old “you can sort that after in photoshop” And yes we do tweak every single photo we take to soften skin and generally bring out the best in people. But the reality is we are photographers and not digital editors and some things just take too long and are too complicated so if you have any specific worries about babies skin or especially eyes please mention to us before you come. We are very happy with most things, kids are always getting bruises for instance but we can generally pose them so this is not an issue 🙂 but for some things especially around eyes we need to employ the experts which we do have to hand. Also if you are travelling to your photoshoot with children please consider letting then travel in “travel clothes” and changing to their photo outfits when they arrive, Kids can be super messy (me too) when eating and especially travelling so if you want them looking pristine please consider this. We have bathrooms and changing rooms here.
If you wear glasses that do not have a decent anti glare coating then you may get reflections from our lighting. We have a few tips to reduce this but its generally very difficult to remove all together and well worth getting glasses coated. This can of course be removed in post should you wish to send your photos to our digital editor. As always we can get a quote before working but for the most part we can try to adjust glasses to suit.
COVID RESTRICTIONS and what they mean here at JPP…..
Everybody is temperature checked on arrival with a calibrated contactless temperature gun. We ask you to wear a mask on arrival and until your temperature is checked. Once inside our spacious studio you can remove your mask if required but we will keep ours on especially when working with newborns and infants.
We have a strict regime to keep us all safe and it does not take more than a few seconds. I actually think this will be the way forward into the future too.
We also have new PPE stations with contactless hand sanitiser in both studio and entrance hall and anti bacterial hand wash in the bathroom too. We also have gloves and masks for us to wear during our shoots and handovers. For children shoots we will wear our super snazzy super heroes or Disney masks to keep us all safe so you can rest assured we have your best interests at heart.
If you have any questions or would like to book then please call me on 02380 767084
Only 1 rule for your visit Yeah I know there is always one……….
Our only rule here at our photo studio in Southampton is that once you come through the door please do not take any photos or videos on any equipment including smart phones. We have lots of sensitive photos and data and of course it can be distracting and spoil our creativity.
