Smash and Splash the Cake Photoshoots in Southampton

A cake smash photo shoot is a really fun way in which you can commemorate and make memories of your baby’s first birthday. During the session we will capture your baby’s unique personality and they playfully smash and tear into first their taste of sugar.

We’ve also just started a Cake Smash and Splash optional add-on where we can photograph your baby splashing in warm bubbles. This happens after the cake smash, and is a lot of fun, and can also help clean them up!

And the splash session in the bubble bath doesn’t cost any extra.

How does it work?

• Your baby can wear their own clothes or choose from our themed outfits
• We supply the tasty chocolate cake with soft icing or you can provide your own
• We supply birthday bunting and decor or you can bring your own
• You can also have a splash bubble bath session for free if you choose
• Twins are only £50 extra
• Photoshoots last approximately 1 hour
• We offer refreshments as part of the price for parents
• You then get all photos from the shoot, not just a selection

Where in Southampton is it?

Our cake smash photography is all done from our safe, secure, and comfortable studio in Bassett, Southampton.

We pride ourselves on making you feel at home, but more importantly putting your newborn baby or one-year old at ease.

As parents ourselves, we understand how important it is to connect with the baby during the photoshoot, and will strive to not just click, but also connect.

What happens on the day?

When you arrive at the Julian Porter cake smash photography studio in Southampton, you will immediately be welcomed and put at ease and by our husband and wife team, Julian and Sue.

We will bring you into our large and comfortable studio, where you could choose from some of our themed props and 1st birthday baby-grow outfits.

If do choose from one of our outfits, it will certainly save you on washing, but you can keep them in their own clothes if you prefer.

We have a private changing room and wash area, where you and your baby can get in and out of outfits with ease and privacy.

We introduce your baby to the cake!

This is where the real fun starts. We take multiple stunning shots of your baby smashing the cake up, tasting it, getting messy, and celebrating their first birthday in style!

If you want the free optional extra of the Cake Smash and Splash with the bubbly bath, we will then move onto that set of photos.

What to bring?

Bring a change of clothes, not just for your baby, but you might also want to bring some for you as well, as the chocolate cake will get everywhere! It’s a messy and fun photoshoot! You might also want to consider a couple of outfits, one for the photos done before the cake smash shoot, and then an outfit for the smash itself – if you aren’t using our themed outfits that is.

We would also recommend bringing along a few toys that your baby likes, as this can help with the photoshoot to distract them or keep them comforted whilst the session is in progress.

If you want to add a more personal feel to the birthday décor and bunting, you could also bring along decorations with your child’s name on too.

And importantly, if your baby does have any known allergies, please bring your own cake instead. You can also bring your own cake if you would rather something different to the chocolate ones that we will provide.

Can families get involved?

Yes, and in fact it’s something that we always recommend.

We offer a family shoot add-on option where we do a mini-family shoot on a studio background before the cake smash and splash.

We will then provide you with a few family group photos (10 minutes and no outfit changes) and some individual shots which offers amazing value as you get 2 photoshoots in 1.

After your session you can choose to buy from our range of beautiful framed or canvas photos starting at £150.00 which can include multiple photographs so can be incredible value. We have many other products available to view in our studio.

What happens after the photoshoot?

After your cake smash in Southampton, we will work very quickly to review all the photos from the session. During this process we will delete and remove any photos where your baby might have been turning away from the camera or blinking.

We then re-touch and edit all the photos from the session and send them to you on a link to download all the beautiful photos ready to print and share.

Unlike other cake smash photographers in Southampton, you get all of the photos from the shoot, not just a selection!

When to book?

Our Southampton cake smash sessions are very popular, so we always advise that parents book in with us in as far advance as possible. That also means you are more likely to get the date that suits you.

You might also want to consider having your cake smash photography session before your baby’s first birthday. By doing so, you could use the photography at their birthday party, as birthday invites, thank you cards and so on.
