Wedding photography in Devon with Emma and Kam

After a long day in Devon shooting Emma and Kam’s wedding photography I would normally need a lay in. Its not very often that I wake up at 7am post wedding day and the first thing I want to do is write my blog post about the wedding. well here I am its 7am Sunday 28th July. I am excitedly typing away about yesterday’s wonderful wedding in Devon with the lovely Emma and Kam.
Absolutely love my job
Its days like yesterday in Devon I am constantly reminded how lucky I am and why I love my job.
Sue and I left for Devon on Friday night about 8pm after a mega busy day and had a lovely drive to Broadhempston. Arriving just after 10 at our Premier inn at Newton Abbot about 7 miles from our wedding the next morning. Just time for a few cider’s and chocolate. Nice and early the following morning after breakfast we headed off to find our church and venue.

The venue was Mum and Dad’s garden and soon enough the “wedding” poster started to appear and we found our way to both the house and the beautiful St Peter and St Paul Church Broadhempston Devon. We then introduced ourselves to Emma’s family before heading off for a coffee locally.
The church
Unusually Emma did not want preps so we started our day in the village pub next to the church. Kam and the boys and soon being joined by 100 wedding guests so it made a great pre wedding atmosphere. This buzz I am pleased to say remained right through and probably beyond when Sue and I left at 10pm. After a few shots with the lads we headed in to meet the Vicar.

I know I moaned about last weeks “un-christian” vicar, well this was chalk and cheese. Nicolas from st Peter and st Paul Church Broadhempston Devon was the most amazing man. He thanked us for taking the time to say hello and for dressing appropriately for a wedding before offering me advice on where to get the best shots including a chair to stand on. 🙂 I never needed the chair but his advice and enthusiasm just made my day what a TOP BLOKE !
Arrivals
Soon enough Emma arrived in a lovely black range rover which was very fitting for a country wedding. She looked stunning and we all walked into the silenced church to a very excited groom. Our Teary eyed and very nervous bride simply looked beautiful and I mean that in every sense of the word. I then sat (note sat not stood on my chair) haha through one of the most personal and enjoyable wedding ceremonies for years.
Thats was amazing
Before I knew it we were walking back down the isle. I just managed to give Sue a peck on the cheek and tell her I loved her. How romantic I know. We were soon outside with our 115 wedding guests shooting some amazing moments. After confetti we all headed the half mile down the lanes to the venue which looked wonderful despite the obvious lack of sunshine.
Thankfully it was dry and we all enjoyed champagne and canapés on the lawns. Sue and I took our usual mix of family groups and our relaxed shots. As well as taking Emma and Kam off for a few romantic photos in the grounds.

Then at about 4:30 we saw the first of the forecast rain. So we slowly headed into the wonderful marquee which had a glass roof down one end and it shed the most amazing light across the room. Sue and I sat at a table with 6 lovely guests from all over the world. It was the most delicious food including the best wedding lamb ever. Followed after dinner by the speeches which were fun and then a relaxed half hour before the first dance at this point we managed to take Emma and Kam outside again to catch a few moments of sunshine whist it was about.

Then we photographed the first dance. The very apt “power of Love” followed by a couple of songs before the band kicked into action. We stayed for a couple of songs with the band before saying our goodbyes and heading the 140 miles home.
This was a truly wonderful wedding. Great details, great food, great venue. Great church but above all that GREAT people which made for a room full of love and excitement and I truly feel blessed to be a part of this.
Thank you to everyone for helping make our day an amazing day. A truly memorable wedding which you/we can all be proud to have been a part of. Emma and Kam you guys are very special, its clear to see that you are much loved and great people. Thank you for allowing Sue and I to have a tiny glimpse into your world on your most amazing day.
