Our photography workshop with Debby
Today we ran one of our popular Camera and Photography training workshops Southampton
Debby loved her camera but it did not love her.
A few months ago Debby came to one of our photography training evenings and loved it. On these small evening workshops we teach all about your camera settings. They are run from our studio in Southampton Hampshire and are very popular. They are always One-2-One so you get all of our attention.
Debby joined us with her Nikon D3200 camera which was a gift from her Dad. She loved her camera but was just not getting the results on auto mode. When she joined us back in March she badged herself as a beginner although she had been taking photos for a while. I think she was being controlled by her camera rather than the other way around. We soon setup her camera properly and explained all about what and when to use. She spormisqed to come back for a full photography workshop and today she did.
Debby lives in Southampton so spends a lot of time trying to photograph birds in the New Forest. Because of this she wanted some specific photography training on shooting birds. Marwell was the obvious choice for a beginner. Captive birds ♥️
Our day started good then went all Pete Tong!
Our day started in our Southampton Studio and all went very well. Despite already teaching this to Debby we ran over everything again as a sort of refresher. Then we packed our bags and headed to Marwell. As we arrived in the car park I had a phone call so Debby and Sue headed on in. They split up at the entrance booth and that was it. Haha. I caught up with Sue who had lost Debby and we had no way of contacting her. Sue and I headed to the gift shop to grab a coffee and make a plan. Thankfully Debby called me and we arranged to meet up at the Aviary. PHEW…..
Sue and I headed for a walk to the birds and had a coffee on the way before meeting Debby. From then on it was a doddle. Debby captured some great photos as we explained the relevant settings. Honestly after half an hour we could have left her to it. Just like Rich last week she was a star pupil.
After an hour walking around the Aviary we headed to the coffee shop again to go over what she had. Debbie had a Nikon D300 and a 400mm lens so my 200mm was pitiful in comparison.
Photos sorted we made our way back to edit but not before stopping off at the Red panda for a few very rewarding shots.
The editing back in Southampton
After a great couple of hours we headed back to our studio only 8 miles away in Southampton. Now was time to edit. We do this because I think its super important that you go away with some lovely images and its always a great feeling. Debby was overjoyed with todays shoot and especially the panda. Sue took all the credit because she saw the elusive Panda.
Another great workshop with a lovely client. I am sure we will be seeing more of Debby after her holiday.
Beat the camera auto settings on one of our workshops
If you have a camera that is controlling your photos then think about one of our photography courses. We do an evening training course studio based for £99 or a full day at Marwell or the New Forest for only £250. This will get you controlling your camera properly and enjoying your photography so much more.
We offer all sorts of photography training workshops both One-2-One and groups from specialist subjects through to getting to know your camera and would happily chat about anything in-between. We have put on workshops for lots of great local photographers as well as a few local companies looking to improve their social media presence. Sue and I have worked for the United Nations running a workshop for them. Please get in touch if you need to chat about our workshops.
We also offer scouted days around the south coast for those looking to build a portfolio or just find the nicest places to shoot.
We hope that you enjoy these photographs from this workshop. Debby and I are very pleased with them and we feel they show off using your cameras AV and S mode very well and also the various focus and metering modes all of which are interesting to learn about and will take your photography to a new level.
