Smash and Splash Cake shoot
Todays Smash and Splash Cake shoot was with 1 year old Toby at our Southampton photo studio here in Hampshire.
Sue and I have been photographing cake fun smash shoots for years and we recently refurbed our studio to do a new idea. The Smash and Splash Cake shoot was born. They are so much fun splash time is a natural progression from the Cake fun. We are ideally situated, Our Southampton photo studio is in the heart of Hampshire very close to the M3 and M27 motorways with super easy access.
We have lots of props including “birthday boy” “Birthday girl” baby grows and lots of bunting and banners to choose from as well as candles. All of these are available free of charge to you on your shoot.
Toby and his Cake fun
We photographed Toby as a newborn so know his family very well. After a few minutes getting to know Toby again and settling him into our studio we sat Toby with his cake. Toby was almost methodical in the way he ate his cake. It was just brilliant, more nibble that smash but after a few minutes he got into it well.
He was a proper good boy with some super smiles and he sat and played cake fro as long as we needed to get great cake fun photos.
Splash Time
After a quick wipe down of our area and setting up our brand new Roll top Bath we soon got into splash time. The whole swap over only takes a couple of minutes so no time to loose focus. Toby was just brilliant. I continued to interact with him, actually pretending to sneeze worked a treat. I do look a right muppet when I am working or rather play time with kids haha. But it gets the shots 🤪
Toby had a fabulous time in the bath and we took some cracking photos. Its a new project and we are tweaking all the time but we are getting very close to where we want to be and I am loving it.
Mum dried Toby up in our lovely warm and safe area and Sue and I did the clean up ready in 10 minutes for our next client later that pay. Perfect.

We generally choose a chocolate cake either regular or white and decorate it ourselves pink or blue with super squishy icing. They both look and taste fab and smash even better.
