Our lovely client Helen contacted me a few weeks ago to arrange a very special portrait shoot. The shoot was 4 generations from the Youngest 1 year old to Bob who is 97. This was a great shoot for family photographers Southampton Jules and Sue.

Plan A & B its all about the location

We normally photograph Helen in out family photographers Southampton studio here in Bassett. But today we had planned a location shoot up in Chilworth but like most of our location shoots we had a plan B.

Just in case the weather was not great we had planned to go to a local hotel and then Helen and her family would have stayed for dinner afterwards. We have been family photographers Southampton for many years and a plan b is always good.

Plan C just occasionally

Unfortunately due to Bob having a small fall the day before the shoot we decided to do the photos at his nursing home. This was a great idea and we chose the library with its comfy chairs and outside balcony space too. Despite the fall Bob was in great spirits.

We started our photography with Bob just to get him comfortable with us really. A few alone in his comfy chair and then we slowly started building ups the photos around him. This was a great way to keep Bob happy and introduce the kids to what we were doing too. Both Sue and I spent a good portion of out time playing with the 2 kids. Mostly me going on mini adventures with them but when all said and done it helps them relax around us and we have a much better success rate because of this.

Basically Me being an idiot and playing like a kid = great photos 😁

After a few shots we did the important 4 generations photograph and tried it in a few different poses. Mostly a few photography tricks to change things around a little without fuss for Bob.

Sue and I then did lots of photos variants with the rest of the family in the library.

The Balcony

We then took Bob outside into the sunshine for a few more photos and for him to watch the children playing. This was the perfect way to finish our photography with this amazing 4 generation family.
